An exam
One paper which lasts for 3 hours and is worth 90 marks.
A dissertation
on a selected topic.
In the Advanced Higher exam, candidates must answer questions from either

or
Law and Order and Research Methods
or
Social Inequality and Research Methods
Exam questions are a combination of:
Essays which require analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of a wide range of evidence and arguments.
Research methods questions which require analysis and evaluation of sources of information and social science research methods.
