FAQs

Higher Politics

Higher Politics complements Higher Modern Studies very well and is different in a number of respects.

  • Modern Studies focuses on contemporary issues. Politics covers ideas and issues without any time frame.
  • There is no comparative element in Modern Studies. Our Higher Politics Course compares the UK and US political systems.
  • There is no theoretical aspect to Higher Modern Studies. our Higher Politics course looks at the theories of, amongst others, Marx, Lenin, Burke, Hobbes and Schumpeter.
  • Higher Politics is pure Politics. Modern Studies is multidisciplinary, covering sociological and international relations issues.

If you enjoy Politics, Higher Politics is the course for you!

Modernity scotland is an approved centre for Higher Politics.

This means we can present candidates for the qualification in the exact same way as a school or college.

This is familiar with many SQA qualifications but is unusual with Highers.

Modernity Scotland has been presenting Higher Politics candidates since 2014.

This year we presented five candidates and hope they all pass!

A Modern Studies lead teacher could easily use the website for teaching the BGE/National 5 Modern Studies and have accounts for 50 pupils. A subscription would work out at £2 per pupil per year.

The website is constantly updated. By contrast, expensive Modern Studies textbooks go out of date very quickly!
